I’d been hearing a lot of hype about Quest protein bars, they’re one of those things that came from the US and for a bit were kind of tricky to get over here, so of course everyone was raving about them. Part of their appeal seemed to be the huge range of flavours you could get. Everything from mint choc chip to cookies & cream, they’re also low sugar, but with a fair amount of fibre.
Predator Nutrition offered to send me some bars to try, so I was pretty keen to try them out, and when a box arrived with a variety of flavours I struggled to decide which to try first! Just a small selection of the flavours I had to try!
The bars have a sort of nougat texture. They’re soft and squishy and very dense, the flavour is fine, though slightly synthetic, but I wasn’t that impressed.
Then I read a tip from someone about baking them, and that’s when the magic happened!
Put them on a greased baking tray or sheet of foil, and pop them in the oven for about 10 minutes and they puff up ad crisp up slightly. They’re like eating warm cookies straight from the oven with a crisp outside, but a warm, slightly chewy centre, and they’re absolutely delicious!
I serve mine with a bit of greek yoghurt, please excuse the terrible photo, it doesn’t really get across the deliciousness! I tried baking several of the flavours and they were all good. Apple Pie was a particular hit as a dessert.
All of a sudden I understood the fuss! I carry regular protein bars a lot, they’re handy for after the gym, or for during Roller Derby practice, but I don’t think Quest bars fill that particular spot in my diet. Instead they’ve found a place in my cupboard as a healthy protein and fibre packed dessert.
If you take a look there are several recipes around using Quest bars, including rolling them out and making actual cookies with them, so I’m going to have to give that a try!
If you fancy giving Quest bars a try then you can buy them at Predator Nutrition. They currently have a variety pack on clearance, so you can get 12 bars of different flavours for £16.99
