I have to tell you something that may make you jealous.
I have a DRESSING ROOM.
Ok, what I actually have is a room with a boiler cupboard in it off my bedroom that my estate agent claims is a third bedroom, but in my head I call it my dressing room. It contains my dressing table, a clothes rail and a huge and disorganised pile of shoes, dirty washing, sheets and ugly plastic collapsible boxes containing jumpers I haven’t worn for 5 years. I am determined to turn it into a vision of gorgeous vintage glamour so that I can sit in front of my dressing table in rollers and beautify myself like a Princess.
I’ve decided on a 1930s esque sage green for the walls and the rest of the room needs to reflect my slightly chaotic personal style. There’s no point going for beautiful clean Art Deco lines like this, as it would look like a tip in no time!
On the other hand too much frills, frippery and frou frou would drive me nuts and be a dust trap for someone with my housekeeping skills.
So, off on the hunt for inspiration. So far I’ve come up with the following. I can’t remember where the pictures came from, so apologies if they’re yours, let me know and I’ll credit/remove!
Not that I’m fussy, but I want feminine, but no frills, muted tones and clean lines, but with plenty of storage. Organised chaos should reign, all tied in with a vintage glamour vibe on a budget that consists of “whatever I haven’t already spent on food and clothes”.
The first picture is of Dita Von Teese’s dressing room, and probably comes closest to the idea of what’s in my head, but in a different colour!

My wardrobe, doubles as my sewing room. Three wardrobes and a rail… still not enough room.
I need to organise the space more, but waiting for the old man to put some selving up, so i can display my handbangs, although i am worried about the effect sunlight will have on them, as i am with the clothing on the rail.
I love the last bedroom pic! LOVE IT!!! I am in the process of sorting all my clothes out and reorganising. All dresses in one place.. shoes in another.. yadda yadda. It takes work – but oh! it is glorious when it is done! I also store away all my winter clothes and shoes so it gives me more room and less confusion when outfit planning.
I go for old suitcases for clothes, as they stack easily. And old tins and such from carboots for small things 🙂
ORGANISE? I’m moving my having a bedroom, dresser and wardrobe to myself to having to share with my future husband. Nightmare
Bright Green Laces
I used to have a lovely 50s “kidney” shaped glass topped dressing table, my now hubby moved in, and due to his extended collection of dapper clothes, sadly dressing table had to move out….we now have a rail the full length of the wall, with big chests of drawers underneath and a shelf across the top. I now have a much smaller chest of drawers masquerading as a dresser. Roller drawers under the bed for my bags and a hanger on the back of the door for my shoes. X
With an ever increasing collection of vintage clothes both me and my hubby, shoes bags and my vintage Vogue collectionas well as doubling as my office there never seems to be enough space to get it exactly how I want it look but it is work in progress and WILL look like a glamourous dressing room soon!!!!

I used to live in a house like that -Henley road, if you know it- CURSES my housemate had the so-called ‘3rd bedroom’, she ran upstairs and got first dibs! We used it as a (ha!) gym room, it had an exercise bike (which never saw any use) and a box of ciders and crisps. Ha ha! Your idea for the room is much, much classier and I an deeply jealous.
I cannot offer you an ounce of helpful advice though; I have trouble keeping my clothes rail upright! I do imagine one of those small, utility wardrobes though. They’re so dainty and have sweet little shelves.
I’d just like a dressing room. Do you think my son would mind if I evicted him from his bedroom?
I love that you have a dressing room. It’s important for us to make room in our homes for the things that are important to us and, well, clothes are really important to us!
I *love* every single one of those pictures! The hat’s displayed on the stand and wall are just super, the trunk on legs at end of bed actually made my mouth drop!
We don’t actually have a lot of room in our bedroom (once you include all his robots and geekery, plus my pagan stuff) My dressing table is two three three drawer ikea dresser with a mirror on the wall. On one side I have a wooden drawer unit my sister in law was throwing away (I plan to vamp it up once I have more money and a clearer idea on colour scheme) On the other side is the TV. My hair dryer, perfumes and other fab accessories are in the top drawer of the Malm unit. It’s not perfect because I can’t get my legs under when putting on the ritz and the dark wood with glass top shows up all dust and kitty paw prints. Once I decide on how revamp my make up box I’ll put the same fancy paper/fabric underneath the glass. Hopefully that should disguise the smudges! 🙂
