Friday Frock Love: In Praise of the Prom Dress

I really love a good prom dress!

Get the proportions right and it’s a style that suits most figures, nipping in the waist and providing plenty of wiggle room for those of us (me) with hips, and adding the illusion of curves to the more snake hipped.

It’s a style that’s rarely out of the shops as well. Lengths and proportions vary, for a while they were all so high-waisted that I looked like I was wearing a kids party frock, but with a bit of careful shopping you can always find the style kicking around somewhere!

During my “research” (that’s fantasy shopping) for All the Dresses I’ve spotted a few gorgeous examples, so I thought it was time for another Friday Frock Love, with some prom dresses for all budgets.

The sales are always a good place to look for quality frocks, suddenly under budget, or alternatively brands like Lindy Bop, Lady V London and Love Ur Look are great repro retailers for those on a budget.

Top Row
♥ Jolie Moi 50s Prom Dress £52.99 £36
♥ Jolie Moi Wrap Front Novelty Print Prom Dress £54.99 £36

Bottom Row
♥ Lady V London Jasmine Dress £50
♥ Lindy Bop Sienna Dress £44.99

If you’ve got a little more to spend there are some prom dresses out there so gorgeous they make me weep, mostly at my bank balance. These are the pretties over £50 I long to have an excuse to buy.

Top Row
♥ Collectif Dorothy Winter Floral Swing Dress £195 £60
♥ Chi Chi London Floral Midi Dress £57.99

Bottom Row
♥ ASOS Floral Jacquard Prom Dress £85
♥ 20th Century Foxy Yellow Wedgewood Dress £89

[infobox maintitle=”Budget Blown” subtitle=”” bg=”purple” color=”white” opacity=”off” space=”30″ link=”no link”]

For most of us these are in the realms of pure fantasy. Even a 50% off sale wouldn’t put these within my reach. For some of them a 90% off sale would barely make them affordable, still, I love to look at what’s out there, and some of it is beautiful, and some gorgeous twists on a classic 50s prom dress with snake-skin and graphic prints.

Top Row
♥ House of Holland Snake Effect Midi Dress £495
♥ Roksanda Contrasting Patchwork Dress £1090

Bottom Row
♥ Preen Bi Colour Ted-satin Dress £885
♥ Suzannah Lucille Silk Print Dress £850
