London Fashion Week – Gemma Slack A/W 2010

Despite the fact that she shares both my first name and my initials I wasn’t expecting to find much to like in Gemma Slacks gothic and bondage inspired collection.

I’m happy to admit that I’m not exactly the queen of edgy dressing and Gemma Slack definitely seems to be aimed at the edgier end of the fashion pack.

At first impressions it seemed I was right. Leather dresses with cut away sections, draped satin and chiffon teamed with metal detailing and studs and jewellery modelled on bondage gags.

I found this interesting from a fashion as art perspective, but unless you’re Lady GaGa I couldn’t really see much wearable in it. Even in my most rock chick moods I can’t imagine myself in a leather corset with gold nipple clamps.

Closer inspection did reveal some fantastic tailoring with rock and roll edge that I really liked.

This first coat, in particular had a great cut and the wide leather belt looked to be both flattering and add that bit of rock chick flair.

Overall I think Gemma Slack is probably one for the more edgy fashionista, but keep an eye on that tailoring if you have any gothic leanings.
