Custom Made

To be honest I’m in a bit of a tizz today.

The article I didn’t even expect to happen in the Sunday Times has also appeared in the Daily Mail and on Marie Claire.co.uk today and has lead to some more follow up calls from newspaper and radio stations.

This has meant that my heads a bit all over the place. I feel a bit exposed, being out of my nice cosy corner of the interweb and out there in that big wide world of “News” where I have no control. If you’re a visitor that’s found me through one of these articles then welcome! Pull up a chair, make yourself a cup of tea and check out my archives. Feel free to enter my competition and check out my special birthday discounts and competitions in the newsletter!

I hadn’t planned to write about this today, but seeing as we’re on the subject of getting clothes that actually fit. I thought maybe now might be a good opportunity to run through a few places that will custom make your clothes. If you’re not a seamstress yourself (and I’m not) or you fall in love with a dress but you’re not a standard size then these places will custom make them for you for a small fee, or sometimes even for nothing.

Lipstick Vogue

Lipstick Vogue is based in the Us but ships to the UK. She makes all her dresses to order and any of them can be ordered in “made to measure” sizes, including plus sizes. There might be some additional fees for the made-to-measure service.

Lady K Loves

Lady K Loves is a UK based site (and one of my sponsors!) who makes gorgeous retro style dresses, skirts and tops. If you don’t fit into one of her standard sizes you can take advantage of her made-to-measure service for an extra £10 per item.

She By Cindy

This Etsy seller custom makes all the dresses in her shop to your measurements, as well as selling standard sizes through her website.

Courtesan Boutique

Full of pretty frocks for special occasions, this site doesn’t offer a bespoke service as such, but will “tweak” patterns if you are not a standard size.

Audrey and Grace’s

An Etsy seller that offers to “tweak” existing sizes and also offers a fully made-to-measure service.

The Frock Factory

Very “gowny” dresses, but all 2 pieces and perfect for wedding dresses and ball gowns. The skirt from my wedding dress came from here, for the record!

Viola Vintage

Gorgeous vintage inspired designs which can be custom made to fit.

  5. These are fantastic! Thanks Gemma. I am definitely not a standard size – short (5’0″), a size 6 on top and 8 on bottom. A perfectly short pear! I will definitely be visiting these sites.

And congrats on all the attention. It’s a good thing ; )
