Vintage Style Beauty Bargains

I’m a terrible flibbertygibbit when it comes to skin care.

I’ve tried almost everything on the market. From Dermalogica, (which I liked, but eek at the prices!) down to 30p Face Wipes from tesco. Always with the dream of finding that one product that will leave me with smooth, soft, beautiful skin and enough money in the bank to go out so other people can actually see how beautiful and glowing I am.

So, in need of a new moisturiser I headed into Boots. I’d heard good things about their original formula vanishing cream and thought I’d give it a go. Plus, you know, pretty packaging is always a plus.

The face cream was £7.79, but knock me down with a feather or something else really light, I managed to snag me a gift box in their post Christmas sale for 75% off.

So now I have the cleansing milk, skin tonic and vanishing cream, all for the bargain price of £5. Yes that’s FIVE POUNDS. Less than the cream on it’s own. Thank you Boots! (Though why they don’t just take the products out of the gift boxes and put them on the shelves I don’t know)

Plus, they all came packaged in this beautiful vintage style box that I can use to keep, erm, stuff, in, I’m sure I’ll think of something that needs a home!

I’ve only used it a couple of times, but so far I like it. It sinks in well and leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturised without a layer of grease on top. Only time will tell if I turn into a ball of flakiness, or spottiness, or any of the other things my skin can sometimes be prone to.

Any recommendations?

  1. I love the bottles! I would buy this just for the packaging 🙂 I use Liz Earle cleaner and moisturiser. I started buying it on QVC but now just buy directly on her site http://uk.lizearle.com/

It’s the best stuff I’ve ever used.. it’s very gentle so no spots of flakiness, and I used to have awful skin before I found this. Now I worry that one day they’ll stop making it and I’ll be stuck with bad skin lol.

  2. I’ve never seen these before, I’m obviously not very observant! I use No.7. It’s quite pricey and getting more and more so, but I do like it.

    1. I think this was just relaunched last year, so it’s not been around too long!

I used to use Elemis after trying it at a beauty spa then read an article saying how good Aldi’s face cream was. I tried it and found it evey bit as good and it cost next to nothing in comparison. Now I use the day and night cream and face wipes all the time.

    1. I’ve used Elemis, isn’t that another insanely expensive one?

I don’t have an Aldi, but I have stolen it off your shelf and it was very nice…

Love your photos by the way x

  5. I swear by good old vaseline – perfect for dry skin, chapped lips, smoothing untamed eyebrows and for adding that bit of sexy sheen to your face – blend with eyeshadow for a cheap eye gloss. Love it!! x

    1. Oh yes, vaseline is great!

Boots are doing an offer on the Original Formula where you get a free skin balm at the moment, it’s similar stuff but with a nice smell!

  6. These are so pretty! I want to go to Boots right now and buy some!

  7. I tend to buy all my skin care items from LUSH, not only do they smell fantastic (last time we were in the shop my friend tried to eat them) but they’re also ethically friendly which means i can have a clean conscience about using them. They ain’t cheap but they last for absolutely ages.

  8. I love hunting for cheap scincare, hoping that I will discover a “creme de la mer” in disguise. I used Clinique but wanted to switch to something cheaper, so Simple brand seemed like a perfect choice for the fraction of the price. I never regretted this move, my skin looks the same, if not better.

I even went as far as buying foundation, powder, and mascara in Aldi (Lacura brand and 3 euros each product), just to test. It wasn’t bad for the price but wasn’t that great either.

  9. The packaging alone make it look worth buying!

I am still experimenting with finding the perfect skin care products, but I do love Dr. Wexler’s stuff.

  11. The packaging looks beautiful, you know here in the States I have seen beautiful vintage inspired sets of “unknown” brand names that are really cheap like dirt cheap ($5.00) and I always questioned the quality, hmmm maybe I should give them a try.

    Much love,
