What Are You Wearing? When Retro Chick Didn't Match.

Yesterday I bought new shoes. From a Charity Shop.

I don’t often find shoes that I like, are my size, or are a price I’m willing to pay for second hand shoes in Charity Shops, but these were just £3.75 and I loved the style. They’re New Look, nothing fancy, but I do like New Look shoes anyway, so figured for that price they couldn’t really let me down.

Today I have nothing much to do except sit in a hotel room and write, and maybe pop out for a quick dinner at Pizza Express or Wetherspoons later. My outfit therefore reflects this exciting day. I always like seeing what people wear on the days where they’re doing nothing much. I don’t own things like Ugg boots, and though I might occasionally wear jeans and trainers or plimsolls if I just need to run to the shops quickly, todays outfit is pretty much my go to, lounging day type of outfit.

I want to keep my hair out of my face so I’ve plaited my fringe and worn a head scarf (the same scarf that Fiona from Sea of Shoes was wearing at the Alice in Wonderland screening.) It’s Frost French and silk, but I think it was a magazine freebie. Fiona got hers from a Charity Shop, I was given mine so I’m not sure, but I like it anyway. I wanted to be a bit comfortable to sit around all day, so an easy T shirt and puffy skirt are in order, and obviously the weather requires tights. These grey ones are nice and soft and comfortable, not all tight fitting and stomach holding in, so on they went.

I don’t match but I’m comfortable and it’s amazing how colourful a combination of such non colours like grey, black and burgundy can feel.

  1. I love the style of those shoes too–what a great find!

  2. Lounge days are nice.
My go-to/effortless lounge outfit is leggings and an extra long t-shirt or hoodie.

Not so glamorous but it can be dressed up if need be.

Except for today while cleaning I am rockin’ sweats.

The shoes and earring are cute!

  4. great shoes and scarf.
I am guilty of giving in to real loungy lounge wear. Although, I love to dress up a little for almost any occasion, at home doing nothing much, I often wear sweatpants (don’t worry, i don’t leave the house that way!)

    1. If you don’t leave the hosue it doesn’t count!

Working from home I make sure I get dressed properly even if I don’t have to go out. It can get really depressing if you don’t!

  5. I love the shoes…charity shops in Dublin are not the best for shoes, I only found a nice pair once!

  6. Those shoes are awesome…love them with the tights. I can’t believe what a steal they were. I never can seem to find good used shoes!

  7. oh with those ankle straps you can experiment with socks and scrunching too, fun!

    1. I may experiment, but I have very short legs that I’m not sure are up to it!

  8. Great shoes! Love the earrings as well!!

  9. I love the out fit, and especially the hair. Mine is shorter than yours but I’m growing the fringe out so I will be copying the plait trick!! I love to wear scarves for those days when you need to style it but its doesn’t need washing!! but they seem to slip on me so often, I particularly like that 40’s look where the scarf is tied at the front top (no not like Hilda Ogden!) but my head doesn’t seem to be the right shape!

You look fab and I really admire the desire to dress well and be comfy, slouchy loungewear has a lot to answer for in the extra pound stakes!!

    1. May I recommend bobby pins!

I do the 40s style scarf occasionally. I find cotton is easier and you need to fix it at the side with bobby pins and tuck in th sides at the top.

  10. You look lovely! Those shoes are too cute 🙂

  11. I <3 those shoes. Can't believe you got them for that price. Just a little jealous. Retro chick you are so clever!

  12. Those are awesome! Well done on a super buy. We are seriously lacking in charity shops in SA. Or at least, some that are in convenient areas. Your blog is lovely, it makes me pine for the UK though;) x

  13. LOVE the shoes! I have never found shoes I liked at thrift shops. They always looked so worn out.
