Going Clip Clippety Clop on the Stairs – Clogs

I hate Clogs.

I’m sorry but these are just ugly.

I had a pair in the late 90s and having seen pictures of myself in them has made me realise I looked a lot like a golf club and should really never be seen in a pair again. I thought I’d get used to them after a while when they came back in for this Summer, but I really haven’t.

I’m not averse to a wooden sole though. I find them quite comfortable, after a bit of wear they shape nicely to your feet and once you get used to the “rolling” motion you have to use to walk they’re easy to walk around in too.

Open toes and a more delicately shaped sole is a more elegant way to wear this trend. So if you fancy dipping your toe in the world of the wooden sole, here’s a few alternatives.

I’ll have to start by mentioning the ubiquitous Swedish Hasbeens. They’re kinda pretty, but £149? Really?

Swedish Hasbeens £149 ASOS

Thankfully it’s not hard to avoid being ripped off for a popular name and find a similar style for a lot less if you look around. Here’s 2 to start with

Moheda Sofie £60 Sarenza

Barcelona £75 Maguba

But I can give you 3 even prettier alternatives to the clog.

Grettle in the Wood £60 Office

I love the cut out detail and the buckle on these Office shoes. I SERIOUSLY love these.

Opal Patent Sandals £55 Topshop

These are pretty patent leather with an espadrille detail insole. 2 shoes in one!

Miss L Fire Del Rio £50 Shudoo

Embroidered rose buds, delicate heel. Perfect. And even better, currently on sale.

Are you a fan of the Clog trend?

  1. I totally agree actually. I’ve tried to like them, I really have but it’s just not happening.

However, I absolutely love the Topshop sandals and the Miss L Fire ones. Might have to invest in them!

  2. I like the Office ones but they are too high for me, and wooden soles have no bounce in them at all. I like the topshop ones too but the low proper clogs you don’t like are my favourites, assuming they come in a different colour. I’m not keen on tan and brown in general.

Though I had some yellow clogs that we bought on holiday in Denmark as a child and that is what I want again!

  3. Aside from the Miss L Fire shoes, they’re all nasty. I hate clogs so much… OK, not as much as flip-flops… or Uggs.

    1. I’m not the massivest fan of the hasbeen style, but I really like the last 3.

I just HATE those closed toes clumpy things. But, no, not as much as Uggs, or crocs. Plastic clogs? No thank you.

  4. No thanks though surprisingly I kinda like the Topshop ones! My clogs stayed in the 90s along with my neon tops.

  5. I hate clogs because I can’t walk in a mule, regardless of heel height or whatever. I need something to hold me in my shoes.

I have a lovely pair of wooden soled suede ’70s sandals with a sunburst pattern, but they need something stuck on the sole because even with scoring, they slide around.

Does anyone know of something which can be bought to stick on the sole?

  6. I really don’t like them either but I am partial to a wooden sole. My favourites were free at a clothes swapping shop. Score.

    Those Toppers ones are great.

  7. I go back and forth on clogs, there are some that are definitely hideously ugly and then some that aren’t (although I guess they tend to be more clog inspired than true clogs). Either way, clogs are SO COMFORTABLE! (Or – the ones I’ve worn before are.) So for that reason, I can’t deny wanting a pair myself and I sure won’t judge anyone else who wears them 😉

  8. miss Peelpants take them to a cobblers they will stick on a rubber type sole.
PS how dare you all insult my beloved clogs! I love them!!!

  9. Those pink Hasbeens are gorgeous! Convert those to SA rands and you can probably by a small house! x

  10. Does anyone know if a hard wooden sole is good
or bad ( or neutral ) for the feet? When that is what people wore way back when, imagine the noise on a cobbled street!
