What Are You Wearing? Staying Warm

Have you noticed it’s been cold?

I don’t want to be all terribly English and talk about the weather. Well, actually, I do. It’s been blooming freezing these last few weeks making it increasingly difficult to make it out of bed, let alone get dressed up all stylish and head out on the town.

Last year I wrote about staying stylish and warm and they’re still handy tips but this weekend I spent an awful lot of time indulging in another nice way to stay warm.

Mulled Wine.

Of course Mulled Wine won’t keep me warm alone, so when I ventured outside the house this weekend I also wrapped myself up in a huge furry coat.

❤ Beret - eBay ❤ Jumper - Primark ❤ Brooch - Vintage from a Boot Fair ❤
❤ Trousers - Hobbs via a Charity Shop ❤ Boots - Hush Puppies ❤ Coat - Next circa 2004 ❤

You can’t really see my new boots in that picture, being hidden under my nice warm wool trousers. With the help of Twitter I eventually decided on this pair of Hush Puppies. They’re a dark enough brown to wear with black, but light enough to wear with brown and tan.

I went to what was allegedly a Medieval Market at Dragon Hall in Norwich, but to be honest it just seemed to be mostly the same old stuff you see at Craft Fairs except they’d forced the stall holders to dress up like medieval serfs. Queen Elizabeth was good though, as was the mulled wine.

How are you staying warm?

  1. I’ve just bought a lovely vintage green cape and black berry I’ve been sporting. It looks cute but isn’t very practical for the cold. I still wear it though! Love the colour of your hair by the way.

  2. I’m not. I’m freezing.

I have fingerless gloves on, a scarf, two jackets a long sleeved t-shirt, thermals, jeans and boots.

    No heating in my office.

I really need some mulled wine.

I made some last year and it was perfect but as I got to the bottom I was picking up cloves and whatnot, I decided to sieve the cloves and orange peel out. Into the sink. I poured away the last of my mulled wine and was left with cloves and orange peel.

    There’s a story for you.

  3. Just like my namesake above, I’m not, I’m seriously freezing, and just 20 minutes ago managed to avoid slipping on the ice, down a steep hill whilst walking the dog. How I avoided the disaster, no clue!! I’m having trouble staying stylish and it’s bringing me down!!! thanks for posts like this, they give me some good ideas.

By the way, today I got a gorgeous cameo from Aspire Style, with the discount you got for us! loooooooves it 😉

  4. LAYERS!!! and green army socks. And not going outside unless I REALLY have to. I now am the proud owner of “central heating dry patches”. Fab.

ps) hair is looking particularly radiant!

  5. Nice post!!
    Lovely make up

I sadly gave up trying to stay stylish & warm, I come from the North East and was not one of those lasses that could go out without a coat on a night out. I hate being cold!

I have been wearing an unstylish but very warm hat, actually it’s probably not that bad but it’s not my usual style, but it has a 50s slant slightly to it, gloves & wellies, I’d love some stylish boots but can’t find any I like or can afford that are sensible. I need sensible I’m a klutz I broke my ankle on ice as a kid so it terrifies me!

  7. Ha ha! I went to Winter Wonderland- similarly to your experience, what made it a ‘German’ market was that all the stallholders had Bavarian-style check shirts. Hmm. But there was mulled wine (I had way too much).

  8. I’m wrapping up in my big red winter coat which looks quite stylish but unfortunately due to the horrible weather here I’m having to wear my walking boots.

  9. Totally breaking out the vintage coats and sweaters- and loving it! Fab Queen Bess.

  10. I love seeing how your style has evolved and grown over the years. I was really taken aback by your photo– you look just so damned amazing. I love how you’ve made glam and dressing up look so effortless, like Katherine Hepburn. Love it, G.

  11. I’m sporting my electric blue coat that has quite frankly seeen better days but I love the colour, a beret, ear muffs and my mittens which I am still madly in love with. I’ve also been sporting sunglasses in the mornings and as they have bright red frames I must look like a colour chart!

As for my footwaer, i’m very much in love with my brogues and I am very glad the ice has cleared up as brogues + ice = ouch!!

I think it’s hilarious that you felt the stall holders were forced to dress up. Not really sre why I find that funny but I do. May be I’m just mean! Naughtly list for me I think! x

  12. you are looking seriously fab in this photo! While unfortunately due to wearing far too many layers, waterproofs and walking boots I am currently looking like a badly upholstered sofa! At least I can attempt to maintain hair and make-up standards dahling!

  13. Hand-knitted socks. The magic item you need for cosy feet. It’s probably more to do with sock yarn containing a high proportion of wool and being thicker than the yarn used for commercial socks than anything to do with being hand-knitted, but they really are the bees knees in this weather.

When my nan died this summer, my uncle recalled that she knitted all her children’s socks – and she had five! I doubt the poor woman ever put down her needles. No wonder knitting machines caught on so fast in the 1960s.

Your trousers are fab. Hobbs have some smashing skirt suits in at the moment, too.

  14. I love your coat, it looks very cosy indeed 🙂

At the moment my main concern is not slipping! Then followed closely by staying warm haha. I’m always wearing my gloves, beret, navy wool coat and boots. It almost looks like I have no other clothes at the moment haha.

  15. Great coat and I love your trousers – what a find.

I have been doing 30 for 30, so I’ve had no flexibility in clothes. Looking forward to some chunky jumpers so hopefully I’ll be a bit warmer. Chilly in Newcastle.

  16. Looking gorgeous!
I’m just piling a bunch of stuff and looking like a bear afterwards, but staying warm. Lot’s of faux furs are coming handy too these days!

  17. most of the time I am just freezing!
I have to say that you have very very adorable blog. My new daily read!
