Vintage Patisserie Book Launch

On Wednesday night I went to a truly fabulous party.

Seriously, it was so amazing that I’m still buzzing about it now. That Angel Adoree from The Vintage Patisserie is a very clever lady.

Things weren’t feeling that promising as after a long train journey I struggled down a very rainy Brick Lane at 6:30pm wearing a top on which the elastic had bust on one of the sleeves and feeling VERY glad I had remembered to bring an umbrella. My name was on an actual list at the door, that happens rarely enough for me to find it very exciting and once I had got inside and foisted my damp umbrella off on the cloak room things started really looking up.

The venue was fabulously twisty turny (are they words? They are now.) so that you really felt you were discovering something new behind every door. The idea was to bring the book to life, and it certainly did (I’ll be reviewing the book soon, I promise!) although there was a magical, Alice in Wonderland type feel to the party, it was anything but twee. There was a bit of a darker edge to it, which I absolutely loved.

Drinking champagne and jasmine tea cocktails from china tea cups, which seemed to be magically refilled the minute they emptied, we tucked into a repast of chicken parfait, chocolate cupcakes and scones with cream and jam. At some point “Cemetery Salads” were bought round (you really must see the book!), though it appears I managed to miss potatoes and sour cream as I was off exploring.

I got to enjoy the company of the lovely Margaret of Penny Dreadful, Lena from Style High Club, Minna from Red Legs in Soho and Naomi, Bethan and Fleur of  The Vintage Mafia. Enjoy their company so much, in fact, that after a few initial photos of lovely decorations I mostly failed to remember to take any of people. Certainly no nicely posed ones anyway! The rest of my photos are on the Facebook Page

I had to leave far too early to get the train, but I did get to meet the lovely Angel Adoree who is truly a fabulous hostess, and I left with a signed copy of the book which I am incredibly excited about. Far too excited in fact. I felt a bit silly asking for one, but I really admire Angel and what she has done with the Vintage Patisserie in quite a tragic fan girl way. A “vintage” business without polka dots and frou frou, this was a truly classy affair, and really magical.

I also got given a goodie bag, which contained enough excitement to keep me entertained for at least some of the way home on the train as it featured a tiny bottle of Kings Ginger Liquer and some exciting beauty products as well as recipes for some of the yummy cocktails we’d drunk that evening.

I will be reviewing the book, probably next week some time, but I thought you might like to know that Tesco Books are running a competition to win a tea party for you and 12 friends organised by Angel and The Vintage Patisserie. If it’s anything like last nights experience then it’s really a competition not to miss!

You can also buy The Vintage Tea Party Book on Amazon for £10.

  1. I shall the same as I said on Penny Dreadful. Green. With. Envy. I adore Angel’s work and vividly remember her pitch to the Dragons. I appluaded at the end. I loke the darker side of her work – very Tim Burton-esque. Looks like you had a hoot 🙂
