When I moved house last Summer I put most of my “everyday” winter coats into a box.

Mr Chick put said box in the leaky shed and now all my coats are mouldy. So I needed a new coat. Badly. My fancy vintage astrakhan isn’t always the most practical for day to day wear and was starting to suffer a little from constant use.

I first saw the prototype version of the new Heyday! coat on Shona herself last January, and I loved it, so when it finally appeared on the website I knew it had to be my new winter coat. Heyday! are a long time advertiser on the blog, and without doubt one of my favourite repro brands so we did a swap for advertising and now the lovely coat is MINE!

You’ll have to excuse a few creases at the hem, it had only been out of it’s packaging a few hours and I was too impatient to wait for the creases to drop out!

COAT 3

You might have seen a sneak peek of it on instagram or my Facebook page last week, and my plan was to take some lovely outside photos at the weekend of the coat keeping me warm in February weather. However it rained constantly all weekend, so instead I took these photos inside at the reopening of local pub The Birdcage. It’s a bit dark, but I think it makes me look like a spy, especially teamed with a beret.

The coat is more gorgeous in real life than I thought it would be. It’s styling makes me think of a “New Look” style coat my Nana owned in the 1950s and told me about (repeatedly, she really loved that coat) I think she’d love this coat to bits.

It has a couple of features that I hadn’t known about already. One is that it’s V neck style actually pulls across and buttons at the neck if it’s cold, and the other is just how beautiful the pleating was at the back.

With good care (you know, not putting it away wet, dry cleaning it at the end of the winter, that sort of thing) I think this is the coat that will last years. It dresses up anything as well. Feel free to go to the shop in pyjamas, all anyone will notice is your coat! I even felt like a Princess wandering around the garden centre on Sunday morning in it.

You might notice I have given the Leopard print shoes another try here, and I think I was right, they work far better with nude stockings, and they just look amazing with the green coat. People were right. Leopard print IS a neutral after all.

I spent the evening drinking cocktails containing absinthe from bottles wrapped in brown paper bags, which was a bad idea for my head the following day.

I shall leave you with one last gratuitous picture of the new coat.
