Happy St Patricks Day

Happy St Patricks Day!

Today is the day that has MOST successfully been completely hi-jacked by a single multi national corporation to promote it’s own products. Hurrah!

Coca Cola had a go with Christmas, Strongbow has been after Halloween for a few years and Bombadier is still struggling on with St Georges Day, but as yet no brand has quite so successfully taken over a whole day as Guinness. Seriously, if you were planning a St Patricks Day party could you imagine it without a pint of the black stuff? Even if you eschew foam top hats you’ll surely have a pint of Guinness.

As a fan of beer in general I have no problem with an excuse to have a drink. However there is quite an astonishing range of Guinness branded products available, from travel mugs to sleep wear, that really boggles the mind. Did you know, for instance, that should you so desire you could spend just £6.10 for this set of Guinness Toucan salt and pepper cruets?

And there’s plenty more in the Guinness store, should you have money to waste on shamrock printed lanyards and toucan beach towels.

I had thought that in honour of St Patricks Day I might do a post on green. However, being a red head (all natural, obviously *whistles innocently*) I like green too much to waste it on silliness. Also I am very tired.

So instead I dressed this poor lady up like a pint of Guinness.

And this one. I believe they call it procrastination.

Do you have any plans to celebrate today?

Why not visit Looklet and create your own Guinness lady? Post the link in the comments if you do!

  1. No plans today. Actually there’s a massive parade in the city (NYC) today, but I think I’ll just relax and enjoy a drink in the comfort of my home instead. All the drunken mess doesn’t exactly appeal to me lately! I think I’m becoming an old lady! :o)

  7. Oh your Guinness girls made me giggle! What an idea.

TBH I’m not 100% for sure how I feel about St. Patrick’s day. /about to launch into boring ethical conundrum

I mean, in America it seems like the VAST majority of people are just like “GREEN BEER! GUINNESS! WHOOOOO”, but I dunno how I feel about celebrating a holiday based around a guy who was praised for getting rid of pagans in Ireland, as a pagan. Yanno? I’ll probably stick some green on just so I don’t get pinched, though!

    1. And snakes, he also got rid of snakes 😀

I find it helps to think of it more as an excuse to drink beer and wear green. I’m not religious at all, but I’m always up for an excuse for a theme!

  8. Love the looks. You managed to celebrate St. Paddy’s in style!
