Tim Burton and some Halloween Fashion Inspiration

Tim Burton has long been one of my favourite directors.

I saw Edward Scissorhands at the cinema in Blackpool, in 1990 aged 11, and cried my little heart out with full on sobbing. Before I was aware that they were directed by the same person, let alone of the concept of director as Auteur, I saw Beetlejuice and loved that too.

When I began to really get into films in my mid teens I knew I loved Mars Attacks! and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

By the time I started my degree in Film Studies in 1999, the year Sleepy Hollow was released, I knew that Tim Burton was my favourite Director. His dark sense of humour and cartoonish yet dark and gothic imagery attract me in a way no other Director does.

So I can’t resist sharing this Tim Burton inspired shoot, from the October issue of US Harpers Bazaar. In honour of Halloween and of Tim Burton’s career retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art from November 22, 2009–April 26, 2010

All the shoots are put together with clothing from “mainstream” designers (though Alexander McQueen and Jean Paul Gaultier have never exactly steered away from the weird and wonderful side of Fashion) The clothes ain’t cheap, but if you want to know where to buy them then all details are on the Harper’s Bazaar website

If you’ve never heard of Tim Burton, or you want to buy any of his books or films then you can find Tim Burton on Amazon, in particularly I highly recommend reading  The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy: And Other Stories.

If you fancy buying them, it would be lovely if you bought through one of these links as Amazon is one of my affiliate programs and every little helps, as the evil mega corporations say.

Those images are beautiful. I love how vivid the costumes are against a fairly dull background. You really made the costumes stand out.
