Spring Cardigans

Spring is definitely cardigan season.

Too warm for big jumpers and coats, but too cold for Summer frocks the cardigan finds it’s natural home on warm spring days. I am of course aware that it’ll be snowing again by this afternoon, but the last few days have definitely given us a taste of warmer weather to come!

I wear a lot of long line cardigans, belted at the waist for a 30s inspired look, but the easiest way to get a vintage inspired cover up on the High Street is to look for waist length cardigans with pretty detailing and long or 3/4 length sleeves. The sensible way to do it is to pick plain colours like cream or white for spring, that will go with lots of things and don’t draw too much attention to themselves.

I’ve found some great High Street picks for the sensible option, but I couldn’t quite resist some of the crazy prints I found, so I’ve thrown some of them in for good measure. They might not be authentically vintage style, but they’re kinda cool…..

  1. oooh I do like the Tesco one that’s actually really nice, I never shop the high street so I should have look, thanks for this!

  2. I really, really, really need a nice sensible cream or white cardigan. Love all those sensible ones!! However this is me here, so I now DESPERATELY want the one with butterflies all over it.

I do love a cardigan, like a jumper but no risk of messing your hair up taking it off IF the sun comes out!

  3. Great post. I love my little cardigans for this time of year. I’ve got quite a few plain ones in different colours, although I do like the heart one above.

Why do I always like the expensive ones!!? I love the lace cropped cardi from Oasis.

If you want short sleeved cropped cardis (I wear mine as tops with a long sleeve over the top) Matalan are really good for them. They’re around £8 each and a pointelle one is around £12.

  6. I LOVE the one with butterflies! So cute!!

  7. Oh my! This selection is lovely, but that butterfly cardigan is absolutely beautiful!

I’ve gone from hating cardigans – I’m a big girl and I could never find one with a flattering cut – to having quite a collection.

I have this lovely chunky knit Matalan one in cream (http://www.matalan.co.uk/fcp/product/fashion-to-buy-online/Knitwear/Flower-Embroidered-Cardigan/46036) and was very tempted to get it in navy too.

And this one from George (http://direct.asda.com/george/womens-cardigans/crown-print-cardigan/GEM232373,default,pd.html) will be perfect for the Jubilee!

I bought an M&S long sleeved cardi and short sleeved jumper to make a twinset – from the ‘Classic’ range. I could only get white! I then bought a beaded, lacy applique on ebay and sewed it on the cardi. Looks very 50s with my pencil skirt.

Cardi £12.50 abd jumper £9 – very good value.
