Dear Diary: April 2016

I’m going to come clean right now. I don’t think I actually did any of last months goals. I wanted to improve my explosive strength and flexibility, but I didn’t do either of those things. In fact I’m probably more hunched up like a little old lady than I was in March.

I didn’t even review that fitness watch, it’s coming I promise! It’s the coolest gadget, I just haven’t had time!

For the first time in ages April included a Roller Derby game that I didn’t play in. April 16th found our B team the Black Shucks and our Co-ed team the Mustard City Rollers competing in their first public game of the year, and I wasn’t rostered for either of them. I made the most of the day off by selling raffle tickets with a hangover. Obviously.Norfolk Roller Derby sponsorship 2

We also announced our new season sponsorship deal with Zaks American Diners.

Also this month I discovered I have absolutely no hamstring strength whatsoever, and have therefore started including leg curls in my workouts, which leave me hobbling slightly for days afterwards, which I guess is a good thing, right?

April Achievements

I played 4 Roller Derby games in April. One of them was before my last update, which we lost, but I’m happy to say that since then I’ve been on the winning team for every game I’ve played. Let’s hope I can keep that up in May! I played 2 Closed door games, with Team Wheezy against Mother Blockers and The Norfolk Brawds against Rebellion and we won both. Then this weekend just gone I was on The Furies for a tournament based on the 70s movie the Warriors. We played 2 games over the day and won both, I’m not sure how much credit I can take as there were some awesome players on my team, but I was definitely there!

In April I did no running at all, not sure that’s an achievement, I just couldn’t face the wind, hail and snow, but now the weather’s warming up I hope to change that!

Also a bit of an achievement in April was a “box jump” it was technically a tyre jump, but it was as high as mid thigh and I was convinced I wouldn’t be able to land it, but I actually managed to get my toes on the box, so maybe all that plyometric stuff has done some good!

May Goals

I’m not going to pretend I’m going to achieve anything huge this month. I have 2 Roller Derby games that I want to focus on and then it’s my BIRTHDAY and I will mostly be eating cake and drinking cocktails (and running from Zombies)

I really do need to work on my flexibility before I turn into a hunched up old hag that can’t get out of a chair without 10 minutes notice, so more regular yoga and mobilisation stuff is definitely on Mays list, plus some more running.

Lets not put numbers on it, I don’t want to set myself up to fail this month. Mays goal is just to do any at all.

Oh ok, lets put a number, one run a week, 1 yoga session and 1 lot of quality time with my foam roller.

Happy now?
