August 3, 2012You know by now that I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for gorgeous lingerie with a whiff of impracticality.
Well today I’ve got the chance to review some gorgeous wisps of lace, and give you a chance to win a set for yourself.
Playful Promises is a london designed lingerie brand that really focuses on the pretty and the frills. They’re not strictly a vintage lingerie brand, but they have that definite sense of fun and glamour . They like to pick bits of vintage styles, take some inspiration and put them together in a modern way.
The Etti Stain Retro Bra and High Waisted knickers, for instance, are based on a bullet bra style, but with a softer shape as they leave off the spiral stitching and use quite a modern floral print satin.
They do sell basques, waspies and suspender belts, but the focus here is definitely on the look, rather than keeping your seams straight and your tummy controlled! Think Pin Up style rather than sensible foundation garments. We all have a place in our life for a little bit of pin up style. Especially in Summer when we might go stocking free and warmer weather might make heavy and restrictive foundations a little, erm, sweaty and uncomfortable.
I chose the Margot set to review and I was pleasantly surprised. It’s easy for models with good lighting and hair and make up artists to make lingerie look lovely, but I wanted to check the quality for myself.
The knickers were generously cut so they didn’t cut in, or work their way into places they shouldn’t. So many “boudoir” knickers leave half your bum cheeks hanging out the sides so it was a pleasant surprise to find these were comfortable AND attractive.
The soft cup bra, I would suggest, is probably most suited to women with a smaller bust, but that’s no real surprise. I have a 37″ bust, so was between sizes, and opted for the M, going down a size rather than up. I should probably have gone up, as the cups are a little bit skimpy on me, but not so much that I wanted to return it. Most of the issue with soft cup bras are with whether you find them supportive enough, and I think if you are above a C or D cup at most then you might find this a bra to lounge around in that imaginary Paris apartment in wearing a satin robe and fluffy mules, rather than a bra for popping to Sainsburys for a pint of milk in.
I did consider showing you a picture of me in my new lingerie so you could see it on a “real” person, but without the benefit of a professional photographer and some nice lighting at the very least that isn’t something I should inflict on anyone, so instead you’ll just have to trust me that this is lovely lingerie.
