Spectacular!!! Spectacular!!! Burlesque in Cambridge

On Friday night I attended the first event organised by the No Family collective.

The night was a decadent whirl of Burlesque, vintage and circus fun in the stunning surroundings at Anstey Hall in Cambridge.

In the beautiful Venetian Ballroom were Burlesque acts such as Cherry and Ruby,  Kalki Hoops, the fabulous Honey Wilde, the Bad Hatters and Scantily Clad and the amazing award winning Hot Boppin’ Girls.

I totally failed to get a single decent photograph of any of the acts, partly because I was enjoying the show, but also because my huge dress made rendered any attempt to unobtrusively slip closer to the stage impossible. There are some great links from the No Family Facebook group though.

With a whole stately home to wander around the bedrooms were filled with side shows, including a boutique offering designs from Jane Doe Latex, Boobie Trap Corsets and Stockings and Romance. The Exquisite Mannequins allowed us a peep into their world of feminine fripperies while Snakes & Ladies mingled with the guests. Also in attendance were Pixelwitch Pictures taking photos in the stunning bathrooms for their Latrino Gals project.

Downstairs the Library offered a quieter area to chill out, chat and pose for photographs like the poser that I am at heart.

As you can see I took the opportunity to give my Vivien of Holloway dress another outing, and it got a few nice comments, which was lovely.

The balmy Summer evening was a definite boon as the opportunity to cool off from the decadent fun and frolics with a genteel stroll around the gardens and observe the fun from a distance felt magical.

All in all I would say the evening was a roaring success, and I’m keenly anticipating the possibility of another. I left the assembled dapper gents and gorgeous gals dancing the night away to the sounds of DJ CRASH & BURN and his extensive collection of Early Rock & Roll, Jump Jive, Calypso, Bossa Nova and Latin Boogaloo.

If you would like to keep an eye out for future events, or check out some rather more professional photographs of the evening then keep and eye on the No Family Facebook Group and No Family Website.

  1. oooh i thought that dress looked like your birthday dress!!

    1. It is, different accessories though.

It’s far too nice to only wear once, but needs a different group of people as it’s quite memorable!

  2. I am starting to love retro clothing more and more. Mad Men definitely fueled that love.
