Little Black Dress and A BIG Thank You.

Well, mostly black. This Laura Ashley dress has a block of coral colour and great wide shoulder straps that meet in the centre back.

I’m in love with it, but as it’s slightly too small (you can probably see it pulling a bit on my hips, if you can’t then don’t look…) I’m letting it go and you can buy it in my store. I’m also on a bit of a pre Christmas health kick, so if you want it you better get it now as I’ve promised myself that if it’s not sold by Christmas and I’ve lost some weight it’s going straight back into my wardrobe.

I wore it out to celebrate the fact that this weekend it was 2 years to the day that I finally walked out of my job to be Retro Chick full time.

2 1/2 years ago I was working for a company with the worst boss I’ve ever come across. The only way I’ve ever been able to express how awful she was to work for is to point people in the direction of the The Devil Wears Prada. Like that, but without the benefit of free clothes and trips to Paris.

Well, the advantage of working for such a terrible woman is that 2 years ago she finally pushed me far enough that I was finally willing to give up the security of a regular wage packet to spend my time buying clothes and selling them on eBay. Another 5 months after that, I started writing a blog, and I’ve been wittering on in public ever since.

The only thing I’ve ever missed about a regular job is a guaranteed wage packet. Despite the impact on my mental health I’m grateful that I finally got pushed to the point where I would walk out of a job a month before Christmas. If you’d told me 18 months ago I’d be going to London Fashion Week I would probably have pitied you for your soft and spongy brain.

But if no one read my witterings then I’d never have done these things and I’d probably be off looking for a new and slightly less evil boss to work for. So thank you for reading. Whether you are dropping by as a one off, you read the occasional post or you read every word I write avidly. I appreciate every second you spend here, every comment you leave and every click on my ads and sponsors.

So this is for you….

101

So lets all give a big HURRAH! for evil bosses, for striking out on your own and for dresses that hopefully won’t sell before Christmas…..

Congrats on your 2nd birthday and well done for getting out of that hellhole and making it on your own, very brave indeed ๐Ÿ™‚

I know the BossFromHell situation only too well, but not at the mo thank goodness.

    Keep up the good work!

  2. Woooohoooo Congratulations you! Had no idea. I too quit my job as head of Art teaching up to A-Level to follow my dreams. I had a nightmare Boss too that drove me to this decision, but I have never looked back. Abilu Creations is growing stronger and stronger and long may it continue. I wish you every success and hope to encourage those to do what you love and follow your dreams!

    Big love X

  3. Congratulations on 2 years and escape from evil boss. Will you be forwarding this thread to said evil boss?

  4. Ah! Thank you for your lovely comments!

Abilu – That’s lovely to hear too. It’s great to hear how people end up where they are.

Fi – Oh, I could. I secretly hope to run into her one day. Hopefully not when I’ve gone to the supermarket looking terrible!

  5. Congratulations on your second birthday! :] I had an awful boss too but I’d like to think we learn from these things and that they drive us forward. My rebellion when I left was to get myself a full fringe cut as I wouldn’t have been allowed to wear my hair like that if I had continued to work there. Two years on and I still have the fringe and I love it! xx

  6. Congratulations on two years and here’s hoping to many more! ๐Ÿ˜€
