New Autumn Winter Goodies in the Shop and Other News…..

It might be Sunday, but I thought I’d pop in a quick update as I have a few new pieces that are perfect for Autumn in the Retro Chick Shop.

For a 1940s or 50s autumn look a good wool skirt is an essential. Either pleated or straight with box pleats at the hem. Wear it with a fine ribbed knit 40s style jumper with short sleeves, like these from Rocket Originals, stockings and brogues.

I have a couple of lovely wool skirts just listed in the store.

First up is this reversible pleated skirt. The pleats are carefully constructed so the horizontal stripes of colour in the skirt show green on one side and brown on the other and the skirt can be worn either way. You also get beautiful flashes of the other colour as the skirt moves.

I also have this heavyweight wool tweed check skirt from Edinburgh Woolen Mill. It’s most likely 1970s, as this is when Edinburgh Woollen Mill started it’s retail stores, but it’s perfect for a vintage 40s or 50s winter look.

I also have a couple of coats and jackets newly listed. For autumn a lightweight but warm jacket is handy. This blouson jacket has very 1950s styling in a wool check fabric. It will look just as good with jeans as it will with a pencil skirt and heels.

If it’s a heavier weight winter coat you’re after then this Wine Coloured Eastex Coat is really gorgeous. I’m only selling it as it’s slightly too big!

In other news shop news. I mentioned before that I’d opened a small vintage homewares section. Well the first lot of auctions finish in an hour or so, but there will be more listings coming in the next few weeks, so if you don’t get something now there will be some gorgeous vintage china trios, perfect for having afternoon tea like a proper vintage princess.

In other news from around the world wide web you should definitely head on over to the Heyday blog as the lovely Shona is giving away one of the beautiful floral Fleur wrap dresses to celebrate reaching 100 followers. Of course, if you win it and I don’t I reserve the right to hate you and feel petulant.

On the subject of giveaways Diary of a Vintage Girl has a mini “vintage face” make up kit to giveaway courtesy of Collection 2000 and don’t forget that right here on Retro Chick I have an Autumn goodie bag of candy striped umbrella, cobweb scarf, and beautiful vintage style purse and mirror courtesy of Aspire Style, and if none of that appeals then you can still get 10% off anything in the Aspire Store online using the code RETROCHICK.

I think that’s about enough for a Sunday, I need to get back to watching episodes of Poirot on ITV3 and drinking endless cups of tea.

I am a huge fan of pleated tartan skirts – my trouble is always finding tops to wear with them, as I don’t suit shirts and seem to have loads of trouble finding nice fitted sweaters. Shouldn’t be that hard should it!

The coat is lovely, shame it is too big for you.

I just went through my fabric stash yesterday and dug out some lovely checked wool fabric to make some straight skirts. I don’t think I’m accomplished enough to try pleating he he!
