Neeewwwww Shooooeeessss

Never try on shoes you can’t really afford.

Or dresses, or anything for that matter. You might think that they won’t be as great when you try them on and you can leave and save your money, but it’s not always the case.

This is very good advice, but not advice I often take myself, unfortunately. Yesterday as I was leaving John Lewis (I bought a reel of ribbon. Rock n Roll) I noticed there was a sale in the shoe department. I tried on some pretty shoes. They were half price. This still made them £62.50, which, for me, is far beyond my shoe, or anything else for that matter, budget.

They were lovely. Twitter made me buy them. Bad Twitter.

Looook, lovely slightly 40s styling with a peep toe that doesn’t show toe cleavage and a nice sturdy yet elegant heel. They also had them in blue suede (I really can’t afford 2 pairs of shoes *sob*)

The money I spent on them was money I had put aside to pay this months web hosting, so if the blog suddenly disappears in the next few days, you know why! Eeek!

But how could I not? Looook!

The shoes are by a brand called Unisa shoes, who I’d not heard of before. So I went off and had a look.

They’re not cheap, approx £110-£130 a pair, but they are good quality. They feel comfortable and sturdy and are made of actual leather, not shoddy cheap plastic, which makes a change for my shoe wardrobe!

They have some nice “vintagey” styles on the website, so it’s definitely one worth keeping an eye on. Especially for the sales.

Clockwise from top left: Obelia Patent Wedge – £115 , Nanoi Kid Suede – £126 , Nimita Kid Suede – £115 , Naive – £130

Currently in the sale on their website they have some cute 50s style kitten heels as well as some more 30s and 40s inspired styles from their winter collection. As ever with sales, sizes are limited, but if you have small feet you’re onto a winner!

Clockwise from top left: Niente Heels – £105 £52.50 , Jaime Heels –£105 £30 , Limbo Lace Ups – £115 £57.50 , Verner KS Heels – £135 £67.50

Thanks! That was a £10 Boot Fair bargain blanket box. Or “place to hide crap” as I call it.

Ohhh pretty and sturdy. So worth it.

Twitter is like the legendary ‘bigger boys made me do it’ of the schoolyard, but for lady bloggers. Husband: “why have you bought 15 maxi dresses with the money you went to buy a lawnmower with?” Me: “Twitter made me do it. There were vintage-r girls, On Twitter. They dared me.” Husband: “You have let yourself down, but more importantly you have let the garden down.” Etc’. Chiz Chiz Chiz as they would say at St Custards.

    I’m a sucker for a good deal
I once got a pair of beautiful Chie Mihara shoes from TK Max for £30, the only pair in the shop just happened to be my size
    good shoe hunting!

Gemma, those shoes are THE BIZ. Fab-you-luss. Well worth the splashing out, because you were sensible and bought the neutral which will go with everything. (I’d have ended up with blue suede which are are not, and wouldn’t!) Like your splurge on that amazing blue Eliza J dress; which I just know you will never regret. Not like I regret NOT having bought it 10 minutes after I clicked on your link. Gulping at the price, instead I went back to work on time; thought about it all afternoon, rushed home to buy it to discover that other followers (you know who you are!) had snapped up all 14s and 16s and I was left bereft. 🙁
If anyone regretted their buy, let me know!!

I fully support the shoes v bills with shoes coming out on top. After all, if you didn’t buy those gorgeous darlings they would haunt you way more than bills 🙂

And they were HALF PRICE godammit.

  • Cute shoes, ah hey you have to have a treat every now and again!

I do this all the time. I think I would’ve learnt my lesson by now. I recently tried on a pair of ankle boots without looking at the price. I knew they were perfect. They looked perfect. £75! I put them back but then was sad for the rest of the day.

I went back and bought them. My bank hurt but I was happy.

You are so right about Unisa shoes. I first discovered them about 3 years ago and love them. Right now I am hoping that the Verner K S Heels you have listed above are in stock in my size!

And its not just us who have discovered Unisa. I get them in my boutique every so often (I run a dress agency and vintage boutique) and they have plenty of fans. If you want to see what we have at the moment then check out http://www.nowandthencollections.co.uk

Great blog by the way – plenty of chat not just endless photos with a caption!
