#Janathon Day 23 – Deadlifts and Kettlebells

Yes, today I went back to the gym, despite the disapproval from my TomTom, and I didn’t even finish on a cardio machine.

I just walked home briskly again (and once again had to walk past my house to earn those last few points).

I’ve reached that point in Janathon where the futility of it all sets in.

There is a definite Janathon wave. It starts with a rush of enthusiasm, YES, I WILL EARN ALL THE POINTS AND REALLY IMPROVE MY CARDIO FITNESS IN JANUARY.

Then there’s a bit of a dip in enthusiasm. The “I can’t be arsed” phase, when the idea of going out for another run seems the WORST.

Then there’s a slight rise in enthusiasm accompanied by noticing that actually, yes, it’s working. I am feeling less tired at the end of long practices, I am running a little faster and not noticing. HEY, THIS IS AMAZING!

Then, around, oooh, now, it all feels really stupid. My legs ache, WHY CAN’T I TAKE A DAY OFF? Rest is good. Why did I set myself this stupid arbitrary challenge that means I have to walk past my house when I get home because 490 points is somehow less good than 500?

Anyway, I DID set myself this arbitrary challenge, and I do not intend to fail (any more than I already have on the 3 days that I didn’t manage to get 500 points).

Therefore, today I went to the gym as normal. Racked up some points with skipping and kettlebell swings, got a few more doing (careful and a slightly lower weight) deadlifts and split squats, then stopped earning points all together as my TomTom decided that I was basically having a nap while I did hamstring curls, bench press, tricep dips and planks.

Then I walked home up a big hill REALLY FAST wearing a far too warm faux fur jacket and got those 500 points.

Yay me! 8 days to go.
