Pow!

This blog, basically, has always been about “stuff I like”.

I get emails sometimes asking me my opinion on trends, or what trend I will be following this season, and I always look slightly blank and explain that I just wear clothes, I hope they’re nice clothes, I think they’re nice clothes, but I don’t need fashion magazines to tell me what I’m allowed to wear for the next 6 months.

I don’t write about stuff I don’t like, that simple. One of the things I get asked to write about and turn down a lot is jewellery. I love to find and wear things from little independent designers that I hadn’t heard of before, but there are a lot of independent jewellery designers out there making wonderful jewellery that just really isn’t my thing. I get emails, that are always lovely, asking me if I’d like to pick a piece and I feel awfully guilty and horrible saying no, but I do, because I don’t want to waste their time and money sending me free stuff I don’t even like and have no where to put and nothing to wear it with.

I always go and look though, so when I got an email recently from a company called Punky Pins from the North East of England I popped over and had a look. I’m deeply fussy, so I wasn’t expecting much.

BUT I LOVED IT ALL!

It’s really cute kitsch style jewellery made of wood and plastic. They’ve been around since 2005 apparently, and I’m not sure if I’ve heard of them before or if I just think I have now that I’ve seen the site, but it took me all of about 10 seconds to decide I had to have this.

This is extra cool, as rather than being plastic it’s printed onto ethically sourced birch plywood, which makes it really light and gives it a sort of faded vintage comic quality.

It’s called the Pop Art Explosion necklace and is just £9.

A terrible full face photo of me for scale!

Honestly I could have sat and shopped for hours, so I thought rather than just going “hey, look at my free necklace!” I’d show you some of the other stuff that is on my wish list!

Punky Pins have also generously offered me a 10% discount code for you. Just enter the code retrochick at checkout!

Pop Art Glitter Necklace £14

When I was a teenager I had diary called the All Men Are Bastards Diary that had the coolest Pop Art cover, and I’ve had a bit of a soft spot for the style ever since. Hence this necklace is very cool. There are actually 3 styles of this, and I like how the detail on the chain relates. One of them has pop art tears!
